A healthy list is worth more than a big one
Mailbox providers decide whether your email reaches an inbox largely on whether people open it. Send to everyone every week and a growing share of your list ignores you, which teaches them to route you away from the inbox for everyone else on it. The same logic runs on text, except there it costs you credits on every send as well.
So the size of the list is the wrong number to watch. A hundred thousand addresses where almost nobody opens is worth less than five thousand who do, because the five thousand still arrive. That is a hypothetical rather than a measured figure, and it is the whole reason the engagement segments exist.
Two moments where this matters most. The first is migration. When you move your lists across, you are choosing what to carry over, and a new sending setup has no reputation yet. Starting on the engaged windows and widening a rung at a time builds one; starting on the whole list spends it before your first campaign lands. The second is every month after that, where the same segments keep the list from quietly filling back up with people who stopped reading.
- Email Engaged (Last 30 Days)The repair list. Where to send while you rebuild delivery.
- Email Engaged (Last 60 Days)A safe default for anything you send routinely.
- SMS Engaged (Last 30 Days)The sharpest text audience, and the cheapest to send to.
- Inactive but opted-inPermission without attention. The part that costs you.
Sticky Cards sends on Amazon SES and GreenArrow, and helps you set up DMARC when you move over. That is the infrastructure half. The segments above are the half you control.
Every prebuilt segment, and what to send it
Each one has a page: what the list is, which campaigns suit it, the plays worth building on it, and which segments to exclude before you press send.
Sticky Cards builds these customer segments automatically from your dispensary’s POS, loyalty and messaging data. Each one has a fixed rule, shown on its page.
Customer activity
Who bought recently, who buys often, and who has gone quiet.
Product preferences
What they actually put in the bag, straight from your POS lines.
Spending and value
What a customer is worth, and where the headroom is.
Loyalty and rewards
Who is enrolled, who is earning, and who is sitting on points.
Communication preferences
Which channels you are allowed to use for each customer.
Engagement
Who opens and clicks, and how recently they last did.

Customer activity
Who bought recently, who buys often, and who has gone quiet.
- Repeat customer (2+ purchases)These are the people your store runs on. This page is about keeping them, not converting them.
- Last purchase 0-7 daysThe freshest list in your account. Use it while the visit is still in living memory.
- Last purchase 8-30 daysYour list of people currently in the habit. It is as useful for who it leaves out as for who it contains.
- Last purchase 31-60 daysThe wider active window. Use it when you need volume and you are willing to trade some relevance for it.
- Last purchase 61-90 daysThe widest window that still describes a recent customer. Best used a few times a year, not a few times a month.
- No purchase in 30+ daysThis is your win-back list, and it works best while your store is still the one they think of first.
- No purchase in 60+ daysThe second win-back window. The habit has broken here, so the message has to work harder than it did at 30 days.
- New customer (1st purchase)You paid to get these customers through the door once. This list is where you find out whether that money bought anything.
Product preferences
What they actually put in the bag, straight from your POS lines.
- Bulk productsThese customers plan their trips. Get the timing right and you own the whole cycle rather than one visit of it.
- Infused pre-rollsA higher price point than the standard version, bought by people who chose it on purpose. Market it that way.
- BeveragesThe newest category on most shelves, bought by people who are still deciding whether it is for them.
- Topicals & wellnessA different shopper from the rest of your store, and the category where what you may not say matters most.
- CBD productsOften a separate customer from the rest of your store, and one you can lose without noticing.
- EdiblesA category bought on a rhythm. Learn the rhythm and you get most of the way there.
- Pre-rollsHigh frequency, small basket. The money here is in the visit count and in what else goes in the bag.
- FlowerUsually the largest segment in the store, which makes it the easiest one to waste.
- VapesA category with a decision already made. The money is in every purchase after it.
- ConcentratesA small list with high value per customer, and the group most likely to notice when you are guessing.
Spending and value
What a customer is worth, and where the headroom is.
- Low SpendersThe band with the most headroom in your store. Treat it as an opportunity list rather than a low-value one.
- Mid-range SpendersMost of your customers and most of your revenue sit here. Small movements in this band are worth more than large ones anywhere else.
- Top 20% SpendersA short list doing a large share of the work. The goal here is keeping them, not selling them more.
- High Average Basket SizeA per-visit measure, not a lifetime one. That difference decides what you should send.
Loyalty and rewards
Who is enrolled, who is earning, and who is sitting on points.
- Has LoyaltyYour enrolled customers. The one segment where reaching people costs you nothing.
- Has No LoyaltyCustomers you are already serving and cannot see properly. Enrolling them makes everything else work better.
- Has Birthday TodayA segment that changes every day. It is a trigger for an automation, not a list you send to by hand.
- Has Birthday This WeekThe working week in front of you. This is a list you read, not usually a list you send to.
- Has Birthday This MonthA forecasting list. Its value is in what it tells you to prepare, not in what you send it.
- Recently Redeemed RewardMembers who have taken something out of the programme. That moment is worth following up and worth protecting.
- Never Redeemed RewardMembers sitting on a balance they have never touched. The reason to come back is already on their card.
Communication preferences
Which channels you are allowed to use for each customer.
- Email Opted-InUsually your largest permitted audience, and the one where sending carelessly costs you the most later.
- SMS Opted-InThe most direct reach you have. It costs credits and attention, so every send should earn both.
- Push Notifications Opted-InThe channel that costs nothing to use. Most stores under-use it, and that is the easiest thing on this page to fix.
- No Channels Opted-InA list you do not send to. Its value is in knowing how big it is and fixing it in store.
Engagement
Who opens and clicks, and how recently they last did.
- SMS Engaged (Last 30 Days)The smallest and most responsive text audience you have. Every credit spent here does more work than it does anywhere else.
- SMS Engaged (Last 60 Days)The balance point of the four text windows. Wide enough to matter, narrow enough that the credits still pay.
- SMS Engaged (Last 90 Days)A quarterly window. Every name past 60 days costs credits for a response you are less likely to get, so step here on purpose.
- SMS Engaged (Last 180 Days)The widest text window. Useful once or twice a year, and useful every month as a decision to make.
- Email Engaged (Last 30 Days)Your most active readers. The list you send to when delivery is in trouble and you need to rebuild it.
- Email Engaged (Last 60 Days)The working audience for routine email. Wide enough to matter, recent enough to protect delivery.
- Email Engaged (Last 90 Days)A quarterly window. The last one most stores can send to routinely without paying for it in delivery.
- Email Engaged (Last 180 Days)Half a year of readers. Wide enough for the sends that must reach everyone, and expensive in signal if you make it a habit.
- Email Engaged (Last 365 Days)A year of readers. Close enough to your whole permitted list that sending to it is barely segmenting at all.
- Inactive but opted-in to communicationsCustomers who said yes and stopped listening. This list needs a decision more than it needs a campaign.
